Calabasas catcher Kurland making the cut

Alex Kurland, a resident of Hidden Hills and the starting catcher on the Calabasas varsity baseball team, has been invited to the final tryout for the Milwaukee Brewers Area Code Team on July 14 at USC.

To date, Kurland has made it through two cuts since the beginning of the statewide tryouts, which started with 300 players and is now down to 85.

Kurland was recently named All-Ventura County by the Ventura County Baseball Coaches Association and the Most Valuable Player for Calabasas.

The Area Code Games will be played from August 5 through 10 at Blair Field in Long Beach.
