Town Center would be welcome

The groundswell of support for the petition to put the Town Center at Westlake Village act on the November ballot tells me I am closer to saying goodbye to my weekend hardware store commutes. As a volunteer who helped gather signatures, I can attest to the enthusiasm with which my fellow residents signed the petition and I thank every one of you. Great job, Westlake Village citizens.

I'm thrilled that we will have the opportunity come Nov. 7 to vote to approve the Town Center at Westlake Village. Since the city council reached a deadlock and was unable to either approve or deny the project by a majority vote because of financial support from outside our community, it seems democratic (in the constitutional sense) that the issue is voted on by the citizens of our community in order to break the tie.

The Town Center will be a wonderful addition to the community with its new shops and restaurants, as will the Lowe's home improvement store. The only other alternative, the office complex, won't bring in revenue even close to what the Town Center can generate. All the office complex can offer to the community is more traffic during rush hours and buildings up to four stories in height, while the Town Center will be a place for families to go and enjoy the park-like setting.
