Time for a fix Almost 20 years ago, I ran for city council in the city of Agoura Hills. At that time I was approached by a gentleman that offered to fix the Kanan Road interchange for what then amounted to $6 million. Today, it has finally come to fruition at the cost of $24 million. Think about what might have been accomplished had this money been spent on infrastructure for the citizens of Agoura Hills instead of what now appeases the politicos with selfaggrandizement. Additional open space, parks, ball fields for the kids to play on, roads and landscape maintained with integrity, city programs that make other cities envious of Agoura Hills. Unfortunately, for many years the money that was available was spent recklessly on legal fees and wanton self-centered projects and interest, only to maintain the power structure locally and beyond. The politics of this small town of Agoura Hills is being run by an elite group of power mongers willing to compromise anything to keep Agoura Hills where it is today. Look around your neighborhood and envision a more proactive city government that gives the people what they want and deserve. The only time it will change is when new Agoura wakes up. Until that time, it will remain status quo. Therein lies the lack of vision and leadership. Agoura Hills lacks the management and leadership clearly visible in comparison to our neighborhoods to the east and west. Seems like the light's on in the kitchen but nobody is home at Agoura Hills City Hall. James Iwanoff Agoura Hills |
