Complaints about the city council

I am writing to complain about the city council, which continues to confound me as to how glib, ill-informed and blatantly arrogant they are.

Failed candidate Barry Groveman has left us with an unnecessarily intrusive ordinance that prohibits smoking not only in public places, but reaches out to my privately owned condo and makes it against the law to smoke on my private patio.

There's also Dennis Washburn's objection to the beautiful horse property built on Las Virgenes Road. These council members are so out of touch with the community as to object to a beautiful property in favor of some revenue-producing commercial venue that would destroy the neighborhood. Washburn was the one who actually suggests that a "tavern" be built on the very same property as the old farmhouse during the debate over what should happen to the two parcels directly on Las Virgenes Road and the trailhead for Ahmanson Ranch parklands.

Also, we are surrounded by expensive equestrian communities and this use is entirely in keeping with current use. Councilmember Maurer, who doesn't like to see horse excrement while hiking, should go live in New York City or get over it.

The character and ambiance of our community and its roots are being undermined and compromised beyond repair on a daily basis by our own elected officials. Nancy Goldsen Calabasas
