More pyrotechnics in the sky

Channel Islands Harbor in Oxnard will be hosting its ninth annual Fireworks by the Sea celebration.

The day's events will kick off with a 10K and 5K fun run/walk along the water's edge. Registration starts at 7 a.m. with the races beginning at 8 a.m. at Sunset Lane, adjacent to the Whale's Tail Restaurant.

The annual Fourth of July parade will start at 11 a.m., featuring youth groups, classic cars, musicians and more. The parade will travel on Harbor Boulevard from Harbor Landing Shopping Center to the Port Royal Restaurant, adjacent to the Channel Islands Yacht Club.

At Fisherman's Wharf, visitors may enjoy musical entertainment in the courtyard and other activities including an artist's market, food booths, water taxi rides and children's games and rides. Children's activities include

"Make Your Own Aquarium," balloons, face painting, an inflatable fun zone, a rock climbing wall, a petting zoo and pony rides.

From Fisherman's Wharf, visitors may take the water taxi to Marine Emporium Landing to receive a free kayak lesson or one hour's free kayak rental, available at Channel Islands Kayak Center from 8 to 10 a.m.

Other activities at Marine Emporium Landing include an arts and crafts show, a farmer's/ fisherman's market, food and beverage vendors, and an oldfashioned barbecue.

The celebration will conclude with a bang during the annual fireworks display. This grand finale may be viewed from all points of the harbor and at area restaurants.
