Mozart's sacred works to be performed

The cathedral choir and orchestra of the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels will present a perfor

mance of Mozart's Coronation Mass, K.317 and other sacred works at 4 p.m. Sun., June 25 at the cathedral, 555 W. Temple St., Los Angeles. The musical program will be preceded by evening prayer.

Music composed for the Roman Catholic Church represented an important part of Mozart's career. In total, he composed 17 Masses, several litanies, two vespers, several motets, and many smaller pieces. Most of the music to be performed at this 250th anniversary celebration of Mozart's birth was completed while he was in the service of the Archbishop of Salzburg between the ages of 17 and 24.

Frank Brownstead is the music director. Featured performers include soprano Rochelle Martin, alto soprano Melanie Henley Heyn, tenor D.J. Pick, bass Julian Fielder and organist Samuel Soria.

A suggested donation at the door is $10. Secure parking is available at the cathedral for $5.
