Village people

We were so happy to read the opinion expressed by The Acorn regarding the Agoura Village plan. You are right on target with your statements.

On the other hand, the letters have missed the mark. The Agoura Village plan is extremely sensitive to the environment, well thought out, and considerate. We have attended many meetings concerning Agoura Village and we are constantly impressed with the process, the willingness to hear all sides and the responses.

We have to realize that this land is privately owned. The people who own it are going to develop it in some way. If not Agoura Village, then a placeless collection of office parks, strip centers and subdivisions. These do not create community. We believe community is needed more than ever in our car-dependent world. Rather than adding more suburban sprawl, we have the opportunity to have traditional neighborhood development (new urbanism).

The community flourishes best in a traditional neighborhood design, which is what the Agoura Village plan is all about. Agoura Village is a recipe for community.

Also, anything that has the potential to keep us from driving from place to place is a good thing, considering our rising gas prices and car dependence. A walkable community is just what we need.

If only the rest of Agoura Hills could adopt the same zoning (vision) as the Agoura Village plan. Now that would make Agoura Hills a really special place. David and Jennifer Lebowitz Agoura Hills
