Sour on elections

I registered to vote at 18 and have voted in almost every single election since. I have never before witnessed such an onslaught of misleading, negative and intrusive advertising as I did in the last month.

First, the mailers. Stacks of glossy and slick fliers filled our mailbox every day.

Then the automated phone calls. My husband and I both use our home phone numbers for work calls. We couldn't pick up our phones for two weeks and our answering machines were full of invasive messages.

However, I didn't mind the calls from live and local parents regarding Measure G. It was nice to hear from friends.

Finally, the television commercials. Blessedly, we don't watch much TV but every time we did, there was yet another ad filled with name calling and finger pointing, complete with apocalyptic images and horrific musical underscore.

Dear politicians, local and national. We are done. You have exhausted your electorate. We are not morons with 10-second attention spans. We know how to read and we know when you're snowing us. Give us the benefit of the doubt. Please take the high road and lead us with integrity. Figure out a better way to spend your campaign money. We'll vote for you if you do. Joan Beal Agoura
