Calabasas beach bus is back

No ride to the beach? Take the Calabasas Beach Bus.

The city's bus to Zuma Beach begins service Mon., June 19 and will run on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays through Aug. 26. The cost to ride is $1 each way.

Past summers have seen about 6,500 riders from Calabasas, Agoura Hills, Hidden Hills and Woodland Hills, according to Stefanie Qualls of the city of Calabasas. "The majority of the riders are young teens-13 and up-but we do get quite a few families that ride the bus . . . we also get a few senior citizens that ride it as well."

The Calabasas Beach Bus pickup locations are:

Calabasas High School in the big parking lot by the sidewalk at 10:05 a.m., 1:20 p.m. and 3 p.m., with return trips at 3 p.m., 5:30 p.m. and 7:15 p.m.;

Calabasas Tennis and Swim Center at the left side of the parking lot entrance at 10:10 a.m., 1:15 p.m. and 3:15 p.m., with return trips at 2:55 p.m., 5:25 p.m. and 7:10 p.m.;

Round Meadow Elementary School at the second parking island at 10:20 a.m., 12:50 p.m. and 3:35 p.m., with return trips at 2:45 p.m., 5:15 p.m. and 7 p.m.;

Calabasas City Hall at the mailboxes at 10:25 a.m., 12:55 p.m. and 3:40 p.m., with return trips at 2:40 p.m., 5:10 p.m. and 6:55 p.m.;

Juan Bautista de Anza Park in front of the parking lot at 10:30 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3:45 p.m., with return trips at 12:30 p.m., 2:35 p.m., 5:05 p.m. and 6:50 p.m.

The Beach Bus leaves Zuma Beach at lifeguard tower No. 6 at 11:10 a.m., 2 p.m., 4:30 p.m. and 6:10 p.m.

Bus riders must carry a picture ID (to show the driver) and exact change. The Beach Bus is an unsupervised program, but drivers won't tolerate littering, music or loud and disruptive behavior.

Smoking, eating and drinking aren't allowed on the buses, but surfboards are. They will fit in the baggage area of the bus.
