Foundation announces grants

The Las Virgenes Educational Foundation approved 104 grants totaling more than $56,000, officials said.

Some of the items funded were writing and science programs, including biology and botany models, supplies and tools. Middle school math and reading labs, musical instruments, art projects and elementary school physical education equipment were also funded by the foundation. Middle schools also received

a grant for a bully prevention program. Special education got a boost by receiving money for a new reading and writing program.

Even dictionaries and thesauruses were provided to the schools through the grant program.

"We look forwarding to expanding the program and significantly increasing the amount distributed next year," said Stuart Selter, foundation president. -Stephanie Bertholdo
