Alert student helps cops

By Daniel Wolowicz camarillo@theacorn.com

A quick-thinking pizza delivery man helped police track down David Mark, a 42-year-old Camarillo resident, who was arrested Sat., June 3 on manslaughter charges after he was allegedly involved in a hit-and-run accident in Camarillo that killed a 19-monthold toddler, authorities said.

The Camarillo child died at St. John's Regional Medical Center, where he was being treated for head injuries suffered in the accident, said officials with the Ventura County Medical Examiner's office.

The teenage delivery driver, a senior at Oaks Christian School in Westlake Village, said he was returning from a delivery when he saw the accident.

The teenager, who asked to remain anonymous, said he initially thought Mark was going to stay until police arrived, but the teen said he saw Mark speed away from the accident only a few minutes after it happened.

The teen said he followed Mark to a nearby home where he used his cell phone to call the police and then waited for deputies to arrive.

Mark was arrested on felony hit and run charges and later charged with gross vehicular manslaughter.

"We would like to thank the Domino's Pizza delivery driver who led police directly to the suspect's location," officials with the Camarillo Police Department said in a prepared statement. "As a result of these citizens getting involved and following the suspect's vehicle, deputies were able to arrest the suspect and take him into custody quickly."
