Incumbent backs Julia Brownley foAssembly

Fran Pavley, Agoura Hills' first mayor and now Assembly member, has been a powerful voice for our environment, our schools and our quality of life.

Now, as she is termed out of office, she and I and a host of local leaders are supporting Julia Brownley to continue her legacy. Only Julia is a proven community leader. First as an involved parent, and now an 11-year member of the Santa Monica Malibu school board, she is helping to make it a model of excellence.

The Acorn says Groveman understands local issues. But where has he been? He had to move into the city to run for office and build up a resume. When we were fighting to save all of Ahmanson Ranch, Groveman wanted to cut a deal. He was MIA in the fight to acquire Soka University. He aborted the environmental review on the massive Malibu Valley Inn and called the costly (and failed) "Measure C" election instead.

After becoming a candidate, he appointed himself to the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy, but rarely bothers to attend meetings. This is not leadership.

Brownley is endorsed by the California Democratic Party, California League of Conservation Voters, California Nurses Association, California Professional Firefighters, California Federation of Teachers, NOW, labor and more.

She is motivated by service, not ambition, and has the integrity and proven leadership to do us proud in the Assembly. Louise Rishoff Agoura Hills

Julia Brownley is the superior candidate for Assembly. As your current Assembly member, I have had the opportunity to get to know all the major candidates and I enthusiastically urge voters to support Julia as my replacement. Improving the quality of our schools has been Julia's highest priority for nearly two decades, first as a concerned, involved parent and now as president of the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District Board.

Julia is the only candidate who has shown that consistent commitment to ensure that every child has access to quality education, to have actually traveled to Sacramento to protest against the governor's budget cuts to our schools, and has sent letters to my office in support of educational programs or in opposition to proposed cuts in funding. Julia is the only candidate to have taken the time to talk to me about our schools.

Our students deserve the representation of this dedicated public servant. Fran Pavley Assemblymember 41st District

There are only two viable candidates for the 41st District Assembly District, Julia Brownley and Barry Groveman.

Consider Barry Groveman, who claims to be a Democrat. If the photo ops in The Acorn of him and the local business people (Republicans?) are any criteria, he is one of them.

He also has three strikes against him: his support of the Malibu Valley Inn, his desire to put a convention center in the Gillette Ranch and his anti-smoking ordinance, which is ridiculed throughout the U.S.

The person to vote for on June 6 is Julia Brownley to follow Fran Pavley's legacy. James D. Wrigley Calabasas
