Viewpoint tennis squad headed to CIF finals
     ADAM DAVIS/Acorn Newspapers PATRIOT PRIDE-With its 10-8 victory over Palos Verdes Tuesday afternoon at the Calabasas Tennis & Swim Center, the Viewpoint boys' tennis team advances to next Wednesday's CIF-SS Division V championship match against Cate. The showdown for the title will take place at the Claremont Club beginning at 2:30 p.m. Left, Viewpoint's Donald Stern connects on a forehand during the match against Palos Verdes.

     Superman wears a No. 26 on his back. Agoura senior Jason Stoffel pitched eight innings of scoreless relief Tuesday afternoon as the Chargers defeated Valencia, 4-3, in 12 innings during the second round of the CIF-SS Division I playoffs at AHS.

     The volleyball season came to an abrupt end for the Westlake Warriors at home last Friday against Santa Margarita in the CIF-SS Division I quarterfinals.

Showdown set, or season over?
     ADAM DAVIS/Acorn Newspapers THE SETUP-Adam Quinn of Oak Park sets the ball for Daniel Freeman during the second round of the Division IV CIF-SS playoffs against Santiago last Friday at Oak Park High. The Eagles won the match, 25-15, 25-21, 25-17, and advanced to last night's semifinal against Valley Christian. On the opposite end of the Division IV bracket, Oaks Christian was on the road to play Brentwood. If both teams won their respective semifinal matches, they'll meet in the championship final Saturday at Cypress College. Results were not available prior to press time.

Stock named to elite All-Star team
     BIG TIME-Agoura's Robert Stock, second from left, Freddie Freeman (El Modena High) and Josh Vitters (Cypress High) were announced as official selections to the Aflac All-American High School Baseball Classic roster and were presented with Aflac All-American team jerseys by Los Angeles Dodgers catcher Sandy Alomar, far left, and first baseman Nomar Garciaparra, right, during a pregame ceremony at Dodger Stadium. The Aflac All-American Baseball Classic is the nation's premier high school baseball game, showcasing the top 38 players in the country as selected by Baseball America and prep scouting service Perfect Game USA. The game will be played Sun., Aug.12 at Tony Gwynn Stadium in San Diego, and televised live nationally on Fox Sports Net (FSN) at noon.
