School bonds are needed

The educators of Las Virgenes are aware of the desperate need for improvements, repairs and replacement of old and outdated facilities in this district. The infrastructure of any school district is the cornerstone of its continued growth and advancement. It is imperative that the Las Virgenes community pass measure G on the June ballot.

The measure will allow deteriorating and temporary facilities to be replaced by new ones and allow the district to make technology changes at every school site, which is absolutely essential in this fast-changing world. It will also provide for the building of a performing arts venue at the two high schools.

I am a seventh-grade student at A.E. Wright Middle School. I am aware that Las Virgenes Unified School District is putting a bond on the June ballet for $125 million to go to the schools in our district. I believe the bond issue is a good idea because my school is in need of many changes and upgrades.

We need better computers. The ones that we currently have are outdated and cannot be upgraded. The six restrooms on the campus for 925 students do not seem enough. The ones that do exist are in need of being replaced.

Also, none of us like the old trailer classrooms, especially the one that's used as a workout gym. We would like to have them replaced with newly constructed buildings. Our air conditioners in the math building do not work properly and need to be repaired.

For my sake and my community, I hope this bond passes. I also hope to see some positive changes at my school. Daniel Deitch Hidden Hills

The Las Virgenes Educators' Association (LVEA) urges all of our citizens to support the children and educators of Las Virgenes by voting yes on Measure G on June 6. Sandi Pope Paul Markowitz Co-president, LVEA

What makes the passage of Measure G imperative is its promised improvements at every school in the district. As a student of Las Virgenes Unified School District for 12 years, I have a vested interest in the achievement of its 16 schools. Likewise, it strikes me increasingly year after year how much these schools need the community's help.

A "yes" vote on Measure G is a vote in favor of: improving technology in our schools over the next 15 years, improving campus safety and new performing arts facilities and athletic complexes.

On June 6, let us make an investment in education by voting yes on Measure G. Zac Byer, ASB president Agoura High School

Each day 4,000 Oak Park children attend school in local classrooms. We're asking for your help to ensure that those classrooms are safe and modern for our children.

Measures B6 and C6 will also allow our schools to qualify for over $9 million in state matching money that will otherwise go to other school districts. The ParentTeacher group at every Oak Park school has endorsed Measures B6 and C6. We're asking you to join us in making local schools safe for our kids. Please vote yes on B6 and C6.

From your Oak Park school PTO Presidents: Leslie Cohen, Marlo Steensen, Vicky Leung, Diana Traficante, Shelly Resnick, Keyla Treitman

I've been a teacher at Brookside Elementary School in Oak Park for the last 28 years. I also serve as the president of the Oak Park Teachers Association. Every single day I see the need for the school repairs and renovations that will be funded by Measures B6 and C6 on the ballot this June.

While well maintained, our schools are simply starting to show their age. Roofs leak, building foundations are cracked, classrooms need to meet current earthquake standards, fire alarm systems are outdated, science and computer labs need to be updated, and plumbing and electrical systems need to be replaced. These aren't frills.

These are basics needed to provide a safe and modern learning environment to match the outstanding quality of education that takes place inside our classrooms. Please join teachers in supporting B6 and C6 by voting yes. Paula Jung Stromquist Oak Park

This June there are two important measures on the ballot that will maintain the outstanding quality of education that Oak Park schools are known for and that we all benefit from. They are Measures B6 and C6.

Measures B6 and C6 are a smart investment that will provide a safe and modern learning environment for local kids but also protect the value of your home.

Please join me in voting yes on B6 and C6 on June 6. Steve Wong Oak Park
