Oaks Christian fundraiser raises $500,000
Wayne and Wendy Hughes named philanthropists of the year
The event raised more than $500,000 for the school's financial aid program. Oaks Christian School parents Wayne and Wendy Hughes and Raja and Celeste Gosnell were recognized as Philanthropists of the Year by school founders David Price and Dallas Price-Van Breda. The Hughes and Gosnells were honored for their major contributions to a new construction campaign and their ongoing support of the school. The evening's entertainment included a trio of performers representing the school's past: 2004 alumni Ann Marie Boskovich, Katie Hampton and George Krikes sang "What the World Needs Now," backed by the high school choir and instrumental accompaniment. Freshman Hannah Crockett represented the school today, playing a classical violin solo. Middle school seventh-graders Trevor Gretzky, Michael Lerios, Garret Zeile and Ryan Bitten provided a look into the future, and brought down the house, with their rock band ADD. Actor, singer, director and philanthropist John Schneider, who portrayed Bo Duke of "The Dukes of Hazzard," and Jonathan Kent of "Smallville," hosted the festivities. Schneider has a child who attends the high school. Oaks Christian School teaches grades 6 through 12. The school is at 31749 La Tienda Road in Westlake Village.
