The last word on local schools

When I read about the problems in the Los Angeles Unified SchooDistrict, it reminds me how fortunate we are to live in one of the besschool districts in the state. Many people forget that all of our schools rank in the top 2 percent statewide and 98 percent of our students continue on to college.

I serve on the Measure D4 citizens' oversight committee that is charged with ensuring our tax dollars are spent properly. I can tell you that our school district does an excellent job managing and prioritizing limited dollars. That is why I have the utmost confidence in their proposal to repair, renovate and upgrade our aging school facilities.

Better schools mean a better education for our kids. Better schools also maintain our high property values. We owe it to them to make a modest investment in safe and modern classrooms. I'm voting yes on Measures B6 and C6 Mark D. Swedelson Oak Park
