Camp exercises minds, bodies

Three years ago Kip Jerger, founder of Kanoa Aquatics, partnered with iD Tech Camps to reach more Generation Y kids.

The weeklong, day and overnight Surf & Tech summer program at Pepperdine University in Malibu allows kids to learn a sport while they focus on their high tech interest.

At iD Tech Camps, participants learn how to develop a video game or design web pages then spend half the day surfing Malibu.

"This program allows kids to find a good balance of academics and physical activities," said Tina Humphrey, a Southland mother whose two children participated.

Kanoa Aquatics has the most qualified team of expert instructors in the country. The instructors are highly experienced ocean lifeguards with decades of experience as world class surfers.

The Los Angeles surf camps provide an atmosphere for sum

mer camp students to learn the skills that will enable them to become more confident and enjoy the ocean as a life-long recreational resource. This promotes a pure surfing experience combined with instruction in ocean safety, wave knowledge and beach and surfing etiquette.
