Community service program gives help to residents

Area Christians Taking Initiative on Needs (ACTION) will host its third annual Ventura County community service program on Sat., June 3. The event is intended to benefit both individuals and agencies in need.

More than 1,500 congregation members from more than 40 area churches will unite to paint, landscape, assist elderly and disabled residents, and provide cleanup and needed help.

ACTION was created by a group of Ventura County churches: Bible Fellowship Church, Vineyard Community Church, EV Free Church of the Conejo Valley and Calvary Community Church.

The organization was formed after leaders from those churches attended "Agents of Grace" in November 2003. During the last two years, a partnership of churches from Agoura Hills to Ventura has been formed.

Projects are directed to ACTION by a variety of nonprofit agencies, churches, schools, individuals, and senior agencies.

This year, more than 40 different entities have provided projects for this outreach day including Area Housing Authority, Lutheran Social Services, Catholic Charities, Ventura County Rescue Mission, Interface, Lighthouse Emergency Shelter, Habitat for Humanity, Tender Life Maternity Homes, Casa Pacifica, Senior Concerns and Conejo Valley Unified School District.
