July Fourth parade route is set
     The Spirit of Calabasas Foundation, founded last November to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina, will continue its relief efforts by putting on an inaugural Calabasas Fourth of July Parade.

Seen during backyard bird watching
     NOBLE HUNTER-An unexpected guest came to Doug Thomas' Malibou Lake home last Sunday. After some research, Thomas determined it was a northern goshawk, a bird of prey used over the centuries for falconry. The goshawk lives in the forested regions of the northern hemisphere. Its scientific name, Accipiter gentilis, comes from Latin and means "to seize," referring to its powerful grasping talons, and "of nobility." Falconry has long been associated with royalty.

Dads from the troop prepared a breakfast buffet of ham and eggs, pancakes and all the fixings while the Scouts, ages 11 to 18, served the guests. Funds earned from the event will help the Scouts acquire and maintain camping equipment and supplies.

Residents post scholastic achievements
     Joseph La Rocque, a senior majoring in pre-communication, was named to the Scholastic Honor Roll for the winter term at Oregon State University. To be on the Honor Roll, students must carry at least 12 graded hours of course work. La Rocque had a grade point average of 3.5 or better.
