Track and field athletes shine at Marmonte League Championships
FOCUSED-Westlake's Mhia Vickers leaps over the hurdles. There were several standout performances by local track and field athletes during the Marmonte League Championships last Friday afternoon at Moorpark High.
Agoura's Derek Johnson won the boys' shot put (49 feet, 8 1/4 inches) and discus throw (178 feet, 1/2 inch).
The Chargers made it a clean sweep in the girls' division when Arielle Fersht captured titles in the shot put (35 feet, 6 inches) and discus (106 feet, 9 inches).
Calabasas' Brittany Harper raced to a first-place finish in the girls' 200 (25.68) and 400 (58.80).
Rebecca Wong of Agoura finished third in the 200 (26.44) and second in the 400 (61.16).
Mhia Vickers of Westlake posted a pair of second-place finishes in the girls' 100 and 300 hurdles. Vickers' times were 15.71 and 47.29, respectively.
In the girls' triple jump, Uzo Ikemefuna of Calabasas came in first with a leap of 35 feet, 1 inch.
The Calabasas girls won the 4 x 100 relay with a time of 50.73, finishing ahead of Thousand Oaks (50.88) and Royal (51.31).
On the boys' side, Westlake's Byron Sells finished third in the 200 with a time of 22.82.
Calabasas' Max Hess posted a second-place finish in the 400 (52.64). Just behind Hess was Agoura's Greg Stanger (52.65). - Stephen Dorman
Westlake distance runner Cory Primm placed second in the 800 (2:00.02) and third in the 1,600 (4:24.29).
Sean Adams of Calabasas finished in third place in the 110 hurdles (15.01) and in second in the 300 hurdles (39.70).
