Russell White takes Crespi job Former Calabasas boys' basketball coach Russell White has accepted the head coaching job at Crespi Carmelite School in Encino. During an April interview with The Acorn following his resignation from Calabasas, White, 34, said he stepped down from coaching to spend more time with his wife as the couple prepares for the birth of its first child. Reached by phone Wednesday morning, White said he made the decision to take the position at Crespi because it provided the best financial stability for his family and afforded him more time at home. "Some of the players that are - Stephen Dorman (at Calabasas) are disappointed because I wasn't going to be a coach so I could be a dad," White said, "and now I'm obviously coaching somewhere else." "That's obviously not in tune with what I said earlier to them," he said. "It's hard to defend that because I said something and I'm doing something else. But the overall situation changed. I'm not going to have to work as much. Financially, it's a good deal for me and my family." White coached at CHS for seven seasons. His teams compiled at 118-76 record during his tenure and won two Marmonte League championships. |
