Congratulations to Oak Park schools

I want to take this opportunity to compliment Brookside and Red Oak elementary schools on their latest accomplishments, being awarded the California Distinguished School award.

Receiving this award is not an easy thing; the names are not just "selected." Much preparation goes into applying for this honor. Staff and other workers have to prepare a paper with information: test scores, attendance and other accomplishments to be considered for this honor.

No question that the Oak Park Unified School District continues to do its stuff and is well-recognized. My late husband, Bob Kahn, would be aware of, but not surprised by the accolades again awarded to our schools.

We have come a long way since 1977, when 93 percent of our community voted to set up our school district and since the first year, September 1978, when we officially opened as the Oak Park Unified School District.
