Bicyclists are rude I have been a resident of Westlake Village for more than 12 years. It is a lovely place in which to reside and a lovely place to bicycle. Over the years, there are a growing number of bicyclists who enjoy riding in the community. Unfortunately, many of them are rude, arrogant and do not feel obliged to obey the rules of the road. There have been a number of occasions when I, while observing the rules of the road, have been yelled at, cursed and the subject of vulgar hand gestures by bicyclists, many of whom do not even live in Westlake Village. This has definitely influenced my willingness to welcome bicycle riders to my neighborhood. But the last straw was the bicycle event on Sat., April 23. The race was a fiasco. It was poorly designed, poorly executed and it virtually held residents of the First Neighborhood hostage for the entire day. If the community of Westlake Village really intends to promote this as an annual event, they need to find another neighborhood to disrupt. They also need to find an organizer that knows how to organize. If the intent of the event was to promote healthy living, it failed miserably. My blood pressure on Sat., April 23 reached the boiling point. Chris Honma Westlake Village |
