PATRICK SHELBY/Acorn Newspapers SMILES-Lauren Dods of Oak Park and her 2-year-old daughter, Olivia, feel the sun's warmth at Mae Boyar Park. Our mommy, Kayo Matsumoto, is special because she loves us very much. She takes us to school each morning and helps us with our homework each night. She also makes great breakfasts, lunches and dinners for us every day. She always cooks our favorite foods and helps us clean our rooms. When our clothes are dirty, she always does the laundry. When we have an accident, she always takes care of us, putting Band-Aids on our boo-boos or giving us medicine to make us feel better. We think our mommy is the best mommy in the universe.

-Ken and Linda Thompson, Agoura Hills

I was reading in bed to keep me awake. I heard the door open and my mother's voice. She was home from a business trip to Boston. She strives to be the best mom she can be, which is hard when you work all day. I know she loves me because she tries to be at important events, such as school conferences and birthdays. On the weekends we golf, shop or bake together. This Mother's Day, I will make sure she knows how special she is to me and how much I love her.

-Natalie Olson, Westlake Village

On this Mother's Day, I want to thank my mom, Marcia Sarowitz. Even though I am 32 years old with three kids of my own, my mom still takes care of me. She is always there for me and is the greatest mother, grandmother and friend I could ever ask for. Thanks, mom for all that you do. You are truly the best. I love you.

-Jillian Greenberg, Oak Park

My mom is Carole Kornreich. I love you so much. You are such an amazing mom and I am lucky to have a mom like you. You are not only a mother to me, but o others. Everyone you talk to is blessed. I hope you have an amazing Mother's Day because you truly are an amazing mother.

-Jaclyn Kornreich, Oak Park

My mom, Helen Stella Hutton, is not only my guardian; she is my guardian angel. She is the painting of love, honesty, positivity and security to me and everyone that is blessed to know her. I have always needed my mom and in a difficult time, I found my best friend. I love you and thank you for pushing me to be a better person. You are an amazing role model.

Dear Mommy, I just wanted to tell you that you are the best. I really like it when you and I play at the park together. You make the best chocolate chip cookies in the world. I think you're the best mom ever. I will always love you.

-Kyle Goldbeck, Agoura Hills

Mother's Day is a time to say thanks and we have so much to thank you for. You are the best mommy in the world. We both know how busy you are with work and everything else you do, so thanks for always making time for us and making us feel soooo special. You drive us to sports, dance and school and are always there for us. You are the most amazing mommy in the world and we are the luckiest kids alive to have you as our mom.

-Ryan and Casey Snyder, Oak Park

Versatility describes our mother, Dr. Juliana Townsend Gensley. A favorite childhood memory is the aroma of her pies baking in a wood stove in the one-room cabin built by our father. During the week she taught school and worked with the Girl Scouts. For this she was recognized nationally with the Thanks Badge for pioneering camping and Senior Scouting in the South Bay. As a professor of education at Cal State Long Beach she became president of the National Association for Gifted Children 19791981. As well as being mother to us and gram to our children, she was a Malibu Creek State Park docent and charter member of the Calabasas Historical Society.

-Robin Gensley Mitchell, Calabasas

Thank you, mom, for all the love and care you give your children. We especially appreciate all the smooches, hugs, jokes, laughing, comforting, help with homework, sports coaching, cheering at games, encouragement at school, teaching, first aid, car pooling, lunch making, clothes washing, game playing, things that you do. It is evident that you enjoy all of these things as much as we do (ok, not the chores and especially not the lunch-making). From Rebecca, Nicole, John and Maggie, we love you. -Michael Wildermuth,

Westlake Village

Mom, you are so special And everyone can see, You are the nicest mother And you mean so much to me,

To me you are the best And no one can deny That you're the perfect mother And that is not a lie,

This isn't just a poem But it is all plain true That you're the perfect mother And that's why I love you!

-Bennett Ryle, Westlake Village Our mom is an incredible person. She is caring, happy, full of joy and always safe and lovingWhether she is helping us with tough times, with our day-to-day school activities or just running us around, playing games or simply listening and putting up with us, she does it with all the love in the world. Our mom is special and unique in so many ways and we wouldn't have it or want it any other way. Happy Mother's Day. We love you so much.

-Ryan and Trevor Darling, Oak Park

My mom, Carol Royal, is very special for many great reasons. She helps me with my homework (even if it's geometry), drives me to places, cooks delicious meals for my entire family, and does many other generous things for my family and me. Just some of her heart-warming qualities are kindness, generosity and helpfulness. When I'm ill, she takes good care of me. My mom can always put a smile on my face. I love her very much.

-Allison Royal, Agoura Hills

I want my mom to have a good Mother's Day because she always helps me with my homework and drives me around everywhere. She also pays for my education and all my personal things. I love her because she is a very smart and beautiful lady. Sometimes she is funny and is great to play with. When I am sad or angry, she can always cheer me up. I always love you.

-Ian Demroff, Calabasas

My mother is special because she drove clunkers, but got me to piano and violin lessons.

My mother is special because she never traveled, but sent me to expensive universities.

My mother is special because she encouraged me to pursue what I loved, rather than what it took to earn a living

My mother is special because she continues to live frugally so she can save money for her grandchildren's education.

My mother is special because when I needed her she was there-not one time-but every time. My mother is special, because she was a teacher.

-Gregory Fried, Agoura Hills

My Favorite Mom (Sung to the tune of "My Favorite Things") Rainbows and flowers just after a huge rain Hellos and hours of drinking good champagne Drives up the coast on a warm sunny day I'd give them to mom in a royal bouquet. Cute little puppies that trip over long ears Astute rugged yuppies show no signs of prime fear Long walks on shorelines and milk chocolate bars

My mom's glow outshines all the universe of stars.

When my temper's up, when my knee bleeds, hen I'm feeling low,

I merely recall how my mom makes me feel, and en I just sense her glow.

You are the best mom I could ever have. You always play games with me and Dylan whenever we're bored. It's fun making dinner with you. Italian food is our favorite, especially pasta. You are always there for me whenever I need you. You always try to come to my cheerleading, volleyball and basketball games. Even if you can't come all the time, it cheers me up when you do. Since dad is always on business trips, you skip work and do something fun with me and Dylan.

-Alexa Yarnell

My mother is like no other. She loves to smile and laugh and although her jokes aren't that funny, honey, my mother can be bright and sunny. She has a fun personality and a great style, too. Here is a short poem I wrote: Roses are red, Violets are blue, You are the best mom, And you know it, too.

-Lana Affrunti

Your pretty eyes twinkle like the stars in the night, mother dear. I never knew your teeth could be so white. It doesn't matter if I like pink and you're the one who likes blue, 'cause mother, there's no color that be half as pretty as you. Mommy, you're so gorgeous that you could be a queen. Oh, mom, I should just tell you you're the prettiest mom I've ever seen.

-Courtney Miller

My mom is very special because she takes me places, she gives me treats, but most of all, she's very sweet. I love her lots, and dad, but I'll think about him on Father's Day, even though he is really rad. Mom will always be my friend and now this poem will come to an end. I really love my mom.

-Lily Kobake

My mom is very special. She works all day, then comes home and is loving and caring for us. She has kept her cool even when the birds in the backyard made a mess of the seeds we put out for them. We would be falling apart if it weren't for my marvelous mom. She coaches my basketball team and does a great job, too. I wouldn't be who I am if it weren't for Susan Allen, my mom.
