Foundation predicts what the future may look like What will the future bring? Perhaps the Conejo/Las Virgenes Future Foundation knows. The foundation will host a colloquium, "The Day in Your Life-2016," on May 20 at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza to explore how emerging advances in science and technology will affect daily life. The program will feature a panel of professionals discussing what they believe life in the Conejo Valley will be like in the next decade. Will the homes we live in be different in 10 years? How about the cars we drive? The next wave of wireless technology could dramatically change the way people conduct business. Some diseases will be conquered and others not, and technological advances in education may radically change the way children learn. Beverly M. Kelley, Ph.D., a professor of communication at California Lutheran University, will moderate the event. Topics to be explored include architecture, education, communications, health and transportation. The panelists are: Jeffrey Daniels, director of architecture and interior design with UCLA extension; Paul Finkel, an electrical engineer and consultant who specializes in wireless technology; and Geoff Wardle, a transportation export who is conducting advanced mobility research at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. Two speakers will address education: Terrence R. Cannings, professor and dean of the school of education at California Lutheran University and Jason Busby, Agoura High School social studies teacher. Dr. John Horton of Hanzelik, Horton, Daya and Kumar in Westlake Village will discuss the important health issues facing human beings in the future. The cities of Calabasas and Thousand Oaks, and EDO Communications and Countermeasures Systems, are sponsoring the event. Fran Brough, the foundation's executive director, said additional sponsors are being sought. The forum is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Admission is free, and there will be a complimentary light lunch. Since space is limited, reservations are necessary.
