The makings of a dynasty?

In 2005, the Viewpoint volleyball team went a perfect 30-0 and came back from two games down to defeat Pasadena Poly in the Div. V championship match, earning the program its first taste of CIF glory.

If things go according to plan this season, it appears Viewpoint will be heading back for seconds.

Barring any losses in their final two matches of the regular season, the Patriots (26-3, 7-0) should begin next week's playoffs as the top seed in Div. V-quite an honor for a team that returned only two starters and saw its No. 1 middle blocker, Julian Nagendran, go down during basketball season with a knee injury.

The Patriots, who have already earned at least a share of their second-straight Liberty League title, are led by three strong seniors-Jared Weiss, Jamie Silverman and Jason Moyal-and one spectacular junior, Matt Talamantes, who's had to play both setter and outside hitter since Nagendran went down.

Despite the fact he stands just 5-foot-10, Matt has come up big as the Patriots' outside hitter, according to his brother, Viewpoint head coach Matt Talamantes.

"He wanted to do whatever it took to help the team," Talamantes said. "And he's become our go-to-guy."
