End-of-life issues to be addressed The difficult but important need to identify and take control of endof-life issues is the topic of a seminar for seniors and their families from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tues., May 9 at the Senior Concerns Adult Day Center, 401 Hodencamp Road, Thousand Oaks. The event is free and open to the public. Session leaders are: Director of Nurses Debi Onken and social worker Andrea Doctor, both with Buena Vista Hospice in Westlake Village; Jean Heister, director of volunteers at Hospice of the Conejo in Thousand Oaks; and Gary Stapley, family services counselor at Pierce Brothers Mortuary in Thousand Oaks. Topics to be discussed are how to obtain durable power of attorney and health directives, how to ensure that personal wishes are carried out by the medical community, who qualifies for hospice care, making wise decisions about funeral arrangements and dealing with family dynamics and stress. Reservations are encouraged through Mon., May 8. Walk-in registration will be based on space availability. For more information or reservations, call the center at (805) 4970189. Also call Terry Smith at this number to arrange respite care at the event for special-need seniors. |
