Chamber of Commerce endorses Oak Park school bonds

The Agoura/Oak Park/Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce board of directors has endorsed a pair of proposed bond measures in the June election that would benefit Oak Park's public schools.

"Our chamber has a long tradition of supporting quality education in the many communities that the chamber serves, and good schools keep our property values high," said Alex Soteras, government affairs chairman for the chamber.

The Oak Park Unified School District is among the best school districts in California. All these schools rank in the top 2 percent statewide. Nearly 98 percent of Oak Park students go on to college.

Many other districts have passed bond measures to repair and renovate school facilities but Oak Park has not asked the voters since 1977, when the schools were built. Passage of B6 and C6 will qualify Oak Park schools for state matching funds of $9 million that will stay in the district, said Soteras.
