Poster contest to promote literacy announced First 5 Ventura County is kicking off a countywide poster contest for high school students to promote early literacy. The poster theme, "It Is Never Too Early to Read to Your Child," supports the organization's commitment to educating families about the importance of reading to children at an early age. The contest is open to all high school students. The prizes include $150 for the winning entry and $50 for one runner up in each grade from nine through 12. The winning poster will be distributed throughout Ventura County to educate the public about the importance of early literacy. The teacher with the most entries from his or her students will receive $50. "Young children who are read to have better language development, reading achievement and emotional development. We've launched this poster contest because we believe there are many talented teens in our county who can help us to promote this important message," said Claudia Harrison, First 5 Ventura County executive director. The deadline for poster entries is Fri., May 5. For contest rules and drop-off sites for entries, go online to www.first5ventura.org. |
