The final word on youth basketball controversy I need to set the record straight regarding the recent articles and letters involving the AYBA. I have the registration of the player mentioned. The coach of the team lost two players before the season started and the player mentioned came in after two games, not halfway through the season. Another parent paid her registration because their daughter dropped out before ever putting on a uniform. I did evaluate the player and felt there was no need to take any action. Although I did not agree with the decision to limit her play I passed it on. I must also say if the league would have let me handle this as a director the way I felt it should have been handled, none of this would have happened. With that said, what was missing from my interview with The Acorn was that I fully support Howie Laurbach and sincerely appreciate his support and dedication to this league. Howie has dedicated countless hours toward the success of this league and I have all the respect in the world for him for making such a sacrifice, a sacrifice he makes because he cares. Everyone has forgotten about the hundreds of kids that have benefited from this program over the years, my kids included. I do what I do because I believe in this program, just like the rest of the volunteers involved. Coaching in this league has been one of the best experiences of my life. Let's put this all behind us and focus on the future, our kids. Get involved if you want a change. Reflect on the positive; a lot of wonderful things have happened in our children's lives due to the AYBA and the efforts of their volunteers. Jeff Rothermel, AYBA director 4th Grade Girls Division |
