Agoura Village plans need more fine tuning Last week the Agoura Hills Planning Commission voted unanimously in favor of the Agoura Village Specific Plan. One element of the plan is a roundabout (traffic circle) for the intersection of Kanan and Agoura roads. This intersection to Malibu and the beach is made up of cars, trucks, emergency vehicles, horse trailers, tourists, motorcycles and bicycles. I believe that mix of drivers and driving skill is a dangerous combination. There is a back-up of traffic between Agoura Road and the 101 Freeway at numerous times of the day. The roundabout will further block traffic on Agoura Road moving east and west and impede cars trying to cross traffic from El Pollo Loco, the Chevron station and the shopping center with IHop, Islands and Chuy's. The roundabout will not be part of the pedestrian-friendly atmosphere created with the Village concept. I strongly object to the concept of the roundabout at Kanan and Agoura roads and the one proposed at Cornell and Agoura roads. I also object to diagonal parking along Agoura Road. That type of parking will interfere with the bike lanes and require cars to back out into traffic on a heavily traveled road. Agoura Hills is responsible to its citizens to provide clear and controlled intersections and create a safe environment for cars and pedestrians. Sharyn Hammond Agoura Hills |
