School bonds are endorsed

At a special meeting of its board of trustees this week, the Community Foundation for Oak Park unanimously voted to support Oak Park Unified School District bond issues B-6 and C-6 related to repair and upgrading of schools in the aging district.

The bonds are designed to repair school facilities in Oak Park, including plumbing problems, leaking roofs and related physical problems and to enhance school safety, equipment and technology.

"This is the first school bond issue to be placed before Oak Park voters since the original election in 1977, when 93 percent of the residents of Oak Park voted to build our schools," said David Ross, foundation president.

"The district will get $9 million in matching state funds if these bond issues are passed, and they will provide for safe, secure and technologically advanced schools for Oak Park children for years to come," Ross said.

The bond issues will be on the June 6 ballot.
