Willow students help environment

The Kids FACE (Kids For A Clean Environment) club at Willow Elementary School in Agoura Hills, open to all fourthand fifth-graders, not only teaches students about local environmental issues, but it also encourages environmental action.

Students in Kids FACE will implement a Grocery Bag Project from Wed., April 19 to Fri., April 21 in celebration of Earth Day, Sat., April 22.

After learning that paper and plastic grocery bags are "about equally bad" for the environment, the club decided to start the project to encourage their parents and other members of the community to use reusable shopping bags instead of disposable paper or plastic ones.

Using funds they raised earlier in the year, Kids FACE students purchased reusable cloth grocery bags screen printed with earthfriendly logos that they designed. The bags will sell for $2.

Students hope purchasers will make a commitment to use the bags at least three times a month while grocery shopping.

Their goal is to sell 300 bags and obtain commitments from as many buyers as possible.

The Grocery Bag event will take place immediately before and after school. School starts at 8:15 a.m. and ends at 2:48 p.m. for the fourthand fifth-graders, except on Wednesday when the school day ends at 12:30 p.m.
