Sign up now for Discovery Nature Camp

Reservations are being accepted for Discovery Nature Camp offered by Mountains Restoration Trust in two sessions this summer. Designed for children ages 8 to 12, the camp provides a strong science and environmental focus through use of hands-on activities, scientific tools, guided hikes, nature crafts, games and hearing from guest speakers.

"Our goal is to provide a fun setting where children learn to appreciate nature and our environment and develop stewardship skills, not just for camp, but in their own backyards," said environmental educator Susan Haugland, the camp director.

Sessions are from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Mountains Restoration Trust is located at Headwaters Corner, 3815 Old Topanga Canyon Road, Calabasas. There is a nominal fee for each session, which includes a special off-site hike.

Session I is June 26 to 29 and covers mammals, stream ecology and Native American culture.

Session II is July 24 to 27 and covers reptiles and amphibians, birds and insects.

Session III is Aug. 21 to 24 and covers paleontology, astronomy and geology. For more information or to preregister,
