Healing Jewish, German relations topic of CSUN talk

The Department of Jewish Studies at Cal State Northridge invites the community to a lecture on "Democracy in Germany Today" on Tues., April 18 from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

Los Angeles-based attorney Honey Kessler Amado will speak about Germany's efforts to ensure that its political culture remains democratic and tolerant. The lecture will be in room 224 of Sierra Hall, on the west side of campus at 18111 Nordhoff St., Northridge.

"I will be discussing my relationship with Germans through the portal of 'T'shuvah,' the Jewish act of repentance that would allow the healing necessary between Jews and Germans," said Amado. "It is important to observe how Germans have recognized past actions and have made such an effort to make amends."

Amado traveled to Germany in 2002 as part of a small delegation from the American Jewish Committee, hosted by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation.

The foundation, in association with the German Christian Democratic Union, has participated in discussions regarding post-Holocaust relations between Germans and Jews and Germany and Israel.

Parking is $4 and available in Lot B3, off Darby Avenue.
