Fairness doctrine

I read with interest and amusement Carl Lane's letter in the March 23 Acorn. To quote Mr. Lane, "Everyone who obeys the laws will not receive tickets." This is patently false.

If a deputy from the Lost Hills station wants to write you a ticket-if they are determined to do so-obeying the traffic laws is irrelevant. Recently, this happened to me.

I was stopped at a red light on Thousand Oaks Boulevard at Kanan Road. I proposed to make a right turn to drive up Kanan. A pedestrian stepped into the intersection moving west across Kanan and I yielded until he was halfway across the street, then executed a slow right turn into the right-side lane. I was immediately ticketed for not "absolutely" yielding to the pedestrian. In other words, as the deputy explained, I had to "absolutely yield to the pedestrian until he set foot on the curb on the opposite side of the street." Only then could I proceed to make a right turn.

Does anyone believe this is fair? John Bass Agoura Hills
