The location: Thousand Oaks Boulevard at Carell Avenue near Agoura High School.

The problem: Some motorists traveling east on Thousand Oaks Boulevard reach the dead end the street near Agoura High and make a U-turn at Carell Avenue.

Motorists making a right turn from Carell onto Thousand Oaks risk a collision because of confusion over the intent of the Uturning Thousand Oaks Boulevard motorists.

Possible solution: The city could prohibit U-turns at the intersection and force motorists to turn around in a cul-de-sac farther down the road.

Immediate action: Agoura Hills city officials said the concern hasn't been brought to their attention.

"It is indeed difficult to make a U-turn at Carell due to the geometry, which inherently encourages vehicles to turn around further east," said Ken Berkman, Agoura Hills city engineer.

At the request of residents, the city installed a raised median at the intersection in 1999 with the intent of slowing traffic.

Motorists could also avoid danger at the intersection if they'd exercise more caution and courtesy, Berkman said.
