Westlake High School senior accepted to Air Force Academy

Casey Jane Barrett Westlake High School senior Casey Jane Barrett has accepted an appointment to the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo. She looks forward to becoming an officer and a pilot in the U.S. Air Force.

For the past two years Barrett has served as editor-in-chief of the Westlake High School yearbook. She has been actively involved in community service, including tutoring students of all ages and training guide dogs for the blind.

Barrett attended Cornerstone Christian School in Camarillo for her elementary school education. Since being introduced to a program there on "Space and Astronomy," Barrett has longed to become a part of the space program with the goal of becoming an engineer for NASA.

She learned of the Air Force Academy in a biography of astronaut Susan Helms, who graduated from the Academy in 1980.
