Worried about local park I wish to write about the substandard lavatory facilities at several local L.A. County Parks and in particular the one I'm most familiar with, Sumac Park in Agoura Hills. Typical of L.A. County parks, the rest room has only the bare necessities: toilet paper and cold water. No seat covers, no soap, no hot water and no paper towels or hotair hand drying machines. The fixtures in the Sumac facility are primitive and reminiscent of remote parks in wilderness areas. The boy's urinal looks right out of a high school metal working class: a sheet metal box affair with a several inches of urinelaced water that does not drain out. The flush push buttons for the toilet and urinal are so hard to work that it's difficult for even me an adult to operate let alone a child. I won't even get into the sinks that double as a drinking fountains. Shouldn't the county health department begin giving these facilities a letter grade like they do the restaurants? Wayne McCormick Woodland Hills Editor's note: Sumac Park is owned and operated by the city of Agoura Hills, not Los Angeles County. |
