OneSpirit Center to host concert for peace Singers, songwriters and musicians will join their voices in support of peace in a concert at 7 p.m. Fri., March 31 at OneSpirit Center for Conscious Living, 1756 Erringer Road, Simi Valley. Nearing the end of "Season for Nonviolence," the 64 days between the memorial anniversaries of Martin Luther King Jr. and Mahatma Gandhi, the concert will feature some of the finest singers and songwriters in Southern California. The performers for the evening event are: Gerald White is a studio singer who has credits on many major films including "Chicken Little," "Fantastic Four," "Polar Express," "Spiderman" and "Spiderman 2." Karen Mitchell is an accomplished singer/songwriter. She is also the music director at the La Crescenta Church of Religious Science. Faith Rivera is an Emmy Award-winning composer, singer, keyboard player, "and a passionate devotee of international humanitarianism." As a session singer she has worked with such artists as Luther Vandross, Jon Secada and Sheila E. Tom Burns is "an exceptional singer, a songwriter of tremendous diversity, and a thoroughly engaging and entertaining stage personality." He was a $100,000 winner on "Star Search" as the "Vocalist of the Year." Burns is also a professional drummer. Harold Payne is an internationally recognized singer/ songwriter. Several of his songs have reached the top five on Billboard's R&B, Dance and International music charts. Andy Howe is "one of the premier piano players in the country." He has worked with many notable musical performers and has numerous television credits including "The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson." He is currently producing recordings for a number of stars "and soon-to-be stars." Dr. Dennis Merritt Jones, senior minister of OneSpirit Center for Conscious Living, created the idea to produce this concert. Almost 30 years ago, he gave up a promising career as a professional singer/songwriter to pursue the ministry. But music continues to be an important part of his life, and "his passion for world peace and good music are coming together in the creation of this concert."
