Moorpark Musketeers Head coach: Scott Fullerton (12th season) Last season's results: 18-12, 9-6 in league (3rd in Marmonte) Biggest losses: Cody Dee, C; Nick Dingman, 3B; Justin Bogoyevac, SS; Drew Dowl, P/1B; Brett Hunter, P/OF; John Bostwick, P Notable returnees: Ryne Intlekofer, SS; Adam Barry P/1B; Josh Butler, 3B; Cody Gabrielson, RF/P Impact newcomer: Cory Goldsmith, junior, P Pitching ace: Adam Barry Biggest bats: Ryne Intlekofer, Adam Barry Overview: After losing a ton of talent from last season's roster, the Musketeers return in '06 with a solid pitching staff but questions on offense and defense. Sophomore Adam Barry, the starting quarterback on the MHS football team, anchors a pitching staff that's deep and talented. Barry will be the ace, but Andres Ceja, Brian Chapek, Cory Goldsmith and Jason McCoy are all capable hurlers who will see a lot of time on the bump. Cody Gabrielson, Mitchell Rudebush, Wes Wright and Matt Baker can all play the outfield as well as pitch. Moorpark's starting catcher will be Shane Johnson. Drew Duncan also expects to see some time behind the plate. Josh Butler gets the call at third base, with Intlekofer at shortstop. Playing second base will be Ryan Burchfield. Barry and Connor Courtland will both see time at first base. James Henderson and Brett Syring are also in the mix in the infield. In the outfield will be Nate Simpson in left, Rudebush in center and Gabrielson playing right field. Seniors Jeff Collins, John Siebert and Jason Storbeck will come off the bench and can play multiple outfield spots. Following a solid playoff run a year ago, Moorpark will need to manufacture runs and play stout defense to return to the postseason. On paper, the Musketeers don't have a tremendous amount of power in their lineup, but the team's football players should give MHS plenty of grit. Head coach Scott Fullerton says: "It'll take a little while. The chemistry is very good, though. The kids get along great. They're learning every day. They're hungry." |
