Agoura Charger

Head coach: Scott Deck (3rd season) Last season's results: 19-7, 10-4 in league (2nd in Marmonte) Biggest losses: Drew Norton, CF; Greg Gelber, P; Jason Novak, P/OF Notable returnees: Robert Stock, P/C; Jason Stoffel, P/1B; Nick Farinacci, SS; Jamie Leonard, P Impact newcomer: Bill Sharp, sophomore, OF Pitching aces: Jason Stoffel, Robert Stock Biggest bats: Robert Stock, Danny Gallinot Overview: Expectations couldn't be higher for the Chargers. AHS is currently the No. 3-ranked team in the Baseball America/National High School Coaches Association Top 25 poll.

After spending last season as the team's closer, Stock joins Arizonabound Stoffel in the starting rotation for '06. Both hurlers can easily push over 90 mph on the radar gun and both have been working on change-ups that could prove devastating to opposing hitters. When they're not pitching, Stoffel will play first base and Stock will catch.

Jamie Leonard, Matt Withem and southpaw Andrew Pevsner will work out of the bullpen. All three should see some starting duty as well.

Behind the finest pitching staff in the Marmonte League is an infield defense that returns most of its starters from a year ago.

Third baseman Brandon Allen will work the hot corner. UC Irvinebound senior Nick Farinacci is the Charger shortstop. Paul Goodman patrols second base and Danny Gallinot plays first base when Stoffel pitches. Gallinot will play the outfield on occasion, too.

Catchers Steven Keller and Jordan Polimeni will also see time behind the plate.

Football star J.T. Wright roams center field, while Bill Sharp is expected to play a corner outfield spot. Ben Yarin, Matt Prater, Jake Rivken and Cole McCune round out the Agoura roster.

Hitting and run production has been an issue in recent years at AHS. If they can score runs consistently, the Chargers could dominate the league. Head coach Scott Deck says: "We're going to see everyone's best. The thing is, can we stay up to the task and to the challenge every day? That's going to be the question."
