Traffic enforcement isn't perfect

I read with interest the letters in defense of the local law enforcement. I couldn't help but notice the letters were from Oak Park. I rarely see law enforcement in Oak Park.

I drive in Agoura and Oak Park six days a week. If you ever want to find the entire Los Hills contingent of the Sheriff's Department, just look for them on Kanan and Thousand Oaks boulevards. I have seen as many as five officers in three cars and on two motorcycles at that location between 8 and 9 a.m.

I have had occasion to confront one of their younger officers who tailgated me from Lake Lindero Road into the Ralphs parking lot. He was driving so close that you could not see his headlamps. He was trying to force me to drive faster so he could give me a speeding ticket. His excuse was "all you people drive too fast."

I have observed a Sheriff's deputy putting his flashing lights on to meet his buddies at Starbucks. A lot of the sheriffs do not know how to use their turn signals or else they don't work. They frequently stop in the middle of pedestrian cross walks, sometimes with children in them.

I was under the impression that if you set a good example that people will appreciate and reciprocate.

In my over 100,000 miles driven the last two-and-a-half years without getting a ticket or being in an accident, the biggest problem I have observed is people driving while using cell phones, drinking coffee, eating, shaving, putting on make up, reading the newspaper, etc. I wish the Sheriff 's Department would spend more time on those issues.
