Traffic tickets are effective

In rebuttal to Georgette King’s letter of Feb. 9, advocating that our neighborhood sheriff/ police are “borderline harassment” is absolutely absurd. Unfortunately in today’s society and in our community, citizens can not police themselves.

The officers are an effective tool for deterring speeding, reckless driving and avoiding accidents. They are keeping our families and especially our children safe.

Next time you are traveling through an intersection, consider someone running through a red light or stop sign. My mom was killed when someone was doing the same while not driving at 100 percent.

I live at the top of Deerhill above the park and I see “good neighbors” like you going 55 to 60 mph in a 25 mph zone when children are playing.

Next time you see these officers, why don’t you wave and thank them—many of us do.

Also consider moving to other parts of Los Angeles where the police are scarce. Scott Cooper Oak Park
