Ordinance was smokescreen Isn’t it interesting that a prosperous attorney aligns himself with the campaigns of two other candidates for the Calabasas Council, then proceeds to build name recognition and comes up with an unprecedented no smoking ordinance for Calabasas, which of course is overwhelmingly approved by the two members he helped to get elected? Most of the businesses in Calabasas, let alone the citizens, knew nothing of the ordinance and when came up. Just to set the record straight, I am a non-smoker. However, I do respect the right of other people to enjoy their habit. If it annoys me, I can always move. Almost all restaurants are nonsmoking, as well as inside all businesses. To me, smoking is not the issue. The issue is the nerve of any agency to ban a legal activity like smoking outside. Little by little we are losing small freedoms and pretty soon they will become large freedoms. As a citizen and voter, we all have the responsibility of making it our business to know what our legislators are doing and learning much more about those we choose to vote for. If we don’t take this responsibility, we sometimes get what we don’t want.
