Temple to screen film about Gaza The Israel Action Committee of Temple Beth Haverim, together with the Israeli House at the Consulate General of Israel, invite the community to attend a special screening of the film “10 Days in Gaza” from 2 to 4 p.m. Sun., March 5 at the temple, 29900 Ladyface Court, Agoura Hills. The screening will be followed by commentary from Gadi Sukenik, Israel’s Channel 2 news anchorman, and Gilad Millo, Israeli Consul for Media and Public Affairs, who will answer questions raised by the film, the recent election of Hamas, and the political arena in pre-election Israel. Beginning Aug. 15, 2005 and lasting 10 days, Israel’s disengagement from the Jewish settlements in the Gaza Strip and the northern West Bank marked a watershed event in the country’s history. Mass demonstrations and bitter political battles deepened the division which cut through the social, political and economic strata of Israeli society, leaving many homeless and many more reeling from the traumatic event. Israel’s Channel 2 News covered the 10 days of disengagement, with 18 correspondents streaming live reports from settlements across the coastal territory. “10 Days in Gaza” begins with the military closure of the Gaza Strip to civilian traffic, continues with the morning when the evacuation forces marched into the 21 settlements, and ends with the last soldier who closed the Gaza gates behind him, ending 38 years of Israeli presence. “10 Days in Gaza” was produced by Channel 2 News Israel and directed by Dov Gil-Har (“Sleeping With the Enemy” and “Behind Enemy Lines”). It is 64 minutes long and subtitled in English. Tickets are $10 advance purchase or $12 at the door. Seniors and students pay $8. For more information, call Temple Beth Haverim at (818) 991-7111 or visit the website at www.templebethhaverim.org. |
