Chief Dyer earns No. 2 spot in fire department

Long-time Westlake Village resident Michael Dyer has been promoted to chief deputy, the number two position in the Los Angeles County Fire Department, effective March 7.

Dyer will oversee business operations for the department, which include administration, support services, and fire prevention and planning.

Dyer began his public safety career more than 27 years ago, serving as an ocean lifeguard specialist, firefighter, paramedic, firefighter specialist, fire captain, battalion chief, assistant fire chief and deputy chief.

He has provided leadership and management for three of the department’s five major bureaus, including EMS, suppression, training, dispatch communications, urban search and rescue, hazardous materials, air operations, fire suppression camps, construction and maintenance, fleet acquisition and maintenance, and materials management.

Dyer has a bachelor’s degree in physical education and a master’s degree in public administration from Cal State University Northridge.

He’s also certified as a hazardous materials specialist and paramedic. He received certification as fire chief from the California state fire marshal.

Dyer and his wife, Vickie, have two children, Ryan, 14 and Courtney, 11.
