City should get down to business

I read in The Acorn that the city of Agoura Hills honored the community volunteers at city hall. It’s great that Mayor Weber honored the people who give their time to the city, but what about the Chamber of Commerce?

For years the Chamber has been left out of any recognition at city hall. Mayor Weber, who is a businessman himself, has always used the excuse that he didn’t want to offend a council member who doesn’t support the business community. Now that the mayor has the supposedly probusiness majority that he campaigned for in the election, what is his excuse?

Chamber of Commerce members have not only donated their time to many community events, but have donated thousands of dollars to support our schools, law enforcement and charities. It’s sad enough that the city doesn’t give any funds to the Chamber to promote business, unlike all other cities, but to not give them any recognition at city hall is an embarrassment.

It’s also sad that our leaders are so intimidated by a few with their own agendas. I guess that’s one of the reasons why Agoura Hills has a reputation throughout the region for being unfriendly to the business community. Bernie Wickman Agoura Hills
