Parishes offer adult, teen classes for Lent

During the church season of Lent, the Catholic parishes of East Ventura County will offer “The University,” an education program for adults and youth with more than 70 classes dealing with Christian faith and moral living.

Each class will meet for one evening only in a 90-minute session at one of the area parishes. Classes begin on Thurs., March 2 and will end in early April.

Class topics include ethics, social justice, scripture studies and archeology, marriage and family, church teaching, church history, faith and science, prayer, evangelism, and more.

Some of the special guest speakers include Cardinal Mahony, discussing the recent election of a new pope, and Sr. Helen Prejean, author of “Dead Man Walking.”

Some classes will be taught in Spanish. New this year are special courses designed for teens.

The fee for each class is $7 at the door for the attendee and one guest. All classes are open to the general public.
