JANN HENDRY/Acorn Newspapers TIGHT TURN—Drivers making a left turn onto Westlake Boulevard from the 101 Freeway southbound exit must enter the turning lane carefully to avoid swerving into the lane to the right. The location: Both left turn lanes going from the southbound 101 Freeway exit at Westlake Boulevard in Westlake Village

The problem: Motorists turning left from the exit ramp onto Westlake Boulevard in the far left turn lane often drift into the next turn lane to the right— and could even drift into other turning vehicles—because the turn is too sharp.

Immediate action: Caltrans has not been made aware of the problem and has no record of recent traffic collisions related to this concern, according to Caltrans officials. Agency representatives also couldn’t suggest possible soultions since the situation could be different than other similar cases.

Caltrans is now investigating the concern and will determine if action is necessary.

“We’re very open to hearing from the public—we depend on them, actually, to give us a call because with so many miles of freeways to keep up with, there may be issues that need addressing that we’re not aware of,” said Deborah Harris, a spokesperson for Caltrans. Have a traffic-related question or concern? Send it to “Acorn Traffic Man” in care of the address on page 4 or by email to pic@theacorn.com. We’ll try to respond as soon as possible.
